Andy Evans
Managing Director,
The Pavement, London
Fresh out of a
Masters degree in 1994, Andy began his career investigating the
potential of multimedia applications and Virtual Reality simulations
for people with special needs at the BT Research Laboratories, UK. Upon
joining a London West End post production facility, TVI, in 1996, he
focussed on MPEG in multimedia applications including VideoCD and
CD-ROM projects in the corporate sector. Within eighteen months, the
division had been re-launched under his guidance as a DVD production
studio called Stream, authoring some of the first pan-European DVDs for
clients including Universal Pictures and MGM.
Andy left Stream
in 2000 to form The Pavement (www.the-pavement.com) with partners
Kristen O’Sullivan and Lloyd Shaer. The Pavement has quickly become one
of Europe’s most creative DVD production facilities, producing a wide
variety of DVDs for the music, TV, feature film and corporate sectors.
By working at the cutting edge of technical expertise, The Pavement has
built a reputation for projects that advance and redefine the
possibilities of the DVD format.
In 2003, The Pavement were part
of a successful MBO of a post production company, now called Pepper
Post Production (www.pepperpost.tv), where Andy is a Director of the
London West End based facility. Pepper’s range of services includes HD
Editing and Telecine, and is in constant demand for TV drama, feature
film, commercials and music.
In April 2005, The
Pavement were approached by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE)
to be part of there beta development of the UMD-Video tools and Andy
has been pioneering this new technology at The Pavement since. Since
taking on the UMD-Video tools, The Pavement has pushed the format to
show what it can really achieve beyond DVD, setting up the foundations
for the next generation formats in both workflow, skills and approach.
