DVD Association Hosts ‘Next-Generation’ Sessions and Awards Luncheon at Digital Hollywood in March 2006 December 15, 2005 -- DVD for the first time will be a prominent part of the program at Digital Hollywood in March 2006, as DVD Association hosts a two-day conference track on “Next-Generation” digital disc, and presents its annual DVDA Excellence Awards at a special luncheon. Digital Hollywood Spring 2006 is at Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel in California March 28 to 30 (www.digitalhollywood.com). “We’re grateful to Digital Hollywood Founder and Director Victor Harwood for recognizing us as the worldwide advocate of DVD developers, and adding us to his state-of-the-industry event as an official consortium,” said DVD Association President Bernie Mitchell. “This destination gathering attracts the movers and shakers of digital entertainment, including members of the DVD Association.” (www.dvda.org) Working with both organizations as Executive Producer of DVDA @ Digital Hollywood Consortium is Bruce Apar of Mediapar, a veteran communications consultant who sits on DVDA’s Board of Directors, and just completed a three-year project as founding Editor-in-Chief & Publisher of Mediaware Magazine, a professional journal for International Recording Media Association (IRMA). His blog, DVDJ Mediapar, can be viewed at http://www.dvda.org/html/blog.html. HIghlighting DVDA @ Digital Hollywood Consortium are industry opinion leaders and digital media creators featured in highly focused sessions titled “Market Makers” and “Content Makers.” They will explore how the scheduled spring 2006 launches of Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD will affect all parts of the supply chain -- from rights holders and DVD producers to replicators, retailers and consumers. There also will be demonstrations of advanced programming tools that elevate the next-generation formats to unprecedented levels of user interactivity and web connectivity. Immediately following the DVDA Excellence Awards Luncheon March 29 is a Winners Circle discussion with award recipients discussing tools, techniques, the creative process and secrets of their success. DVDA also is arranging a networking dinner March 28, the first evening of Digital Hollywood, for all those who sign up to participate in its Consortium. The complete Digital Hollywood Spring 2006 agenda, including all DVDA Consortium events, can be viewed at http://www.digitalhollywood.com/LASpring06Agenda.html.
In addition to DVD Association official publisher DiscMakers (www.discmakers.com), whose chairman Morris Ballen is on DVDA’s Board of Directors, the not-for-profit organization is signing up event sponsors for its Digital Hollywood Next-Generation Consortium and DVDA Excellence Awards programs. DVDA recently issued its Call for Entries for 2006 DVDA Excellence Awards, the only DVD awards program judged strictly by peers, who recognize several titles in each category as best of class. Also distinguishing DVDA Excellence Awards is the separation of categories entered by Studios and Facilities/Individuals, with a total of 21 categories. Complete details, rules, regulations and entry form can be viewed at www.dvda.org. DVD Association (www.dvda.org), a global community dedicated to the development of digital media, is a nonprofit organization funded through membership dues and corporate sponsorships. Membership is open to anyone involved in the creation of digital disc content for training, education, information, presentations and entertainment.
Since 1990, over 40,000 industry executives have attended Digital Hollywood (www.digitalhollywood.com) in Los Angeles, New York, San Jose, and Las Vegas, representing every entertainment market segment.
